Environment Awards

The Big Gun Environmentalist Award

This is presented each year at the annual Landcare BBQ.  The award is given to a member of the community who has made a significant impact on the environment through working with the Trust.  The present holders are Mike & Jenny Howard.

Trust Power Heritage and Conservation Award

In August 2011, Waimate North Landcare Trust were awarded the runners up prize for this category, the winners were the Gabriel Club at Kawakawa rail.  The Trust received a cheque for $250 which was allocated to supporting our pest control programme.  The Trustees were very grateful to receive this award on behalf of our community and Trust members, without whom none of this would be possible.  During the award mention was made of the Trust's work in protecting flora and fauna, planting wetland and an innovative signage system.

Northland Community Conservation & Environment Award

Northland Community Conservation and Environment Award In September 2009 the Trust received an award from Biodiversity Northland for its work in the community and its biodiversity monitoring.  Trustees Daryl Way (Chairperson), Ernie Taylor and Mike Simmonds accepted the award.

Green Ribbon Award

Geoff Wightman receives award from Marion Hobbs Our previous Chairperson and Life Member Geoff Wightman was presented with the Ministry of Environment's Green Ribbon Award in 2002.
