Birds

The Trust monitors the flock size of Kukupa (New Zealand Pigeon) as an indicator species on a monthly basis.
There had been encouraging growth in recent years up until 2008 when the figures indicate a significant drop.  However there was a recovery the following year.

Kukupa flock data can be viewed by clicking here.

In addition the Trust monitors other species in the area and an independent audit carried out by Wildland Consultants can be viewed by clicking here.

Kaka are regularly seen in the district.  Please report any Kaka sighting via the monitoring return form.  Results from our Kaka survey can be viewed by clicking here.

The Trust is very interested in receiving photographs of rare native birds observed in the district, for example Kaka, Kiwi, Kokako.  Please email any photographs to trust@waimatenorthlandcare.org.nz stating the location, the date of the observation and any other relevant information.
